THURSDAY 17 APRIL 2025, PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO – Families in Central and South Trinidad now have easier access to the multidisciplinary therapeutic services offered by the Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organisation (CKFTO) at its satellite clinic on Ramsaran Street in Chaguanas. The clinic will provide therapy and support for children from birth to 21 years old with conditions such as autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, and Down Syndrome.

CKFTO’s Chairman Derek Luk Pat celebrated the day as a proud moment for the non-profit organisation, and shared that "One of the fundamental principles of how we operate is to provide therapy at subsidised rates to economically challenged families.”

(L-R) Krista Hamel-Smith, General Manager of CKFTO, explains the sensory occupational therapy tools in the gym at the Chaguanas Clinic, in the company of Penny Gomez, CEO, Digicel Foundation; Derek Luk Pat, Chairman, CKFTO; Philip Metivier, President, Cerebral Palsy Society, and the Mayor of Chaguanas, Faaiq Mohammed.

Luk Pat thanked the CKFTO’s stakeholders and generous funders, including The Digicel Foundation, which contributed TT$60,000 to equip the new facility with essential occupational therapy equipment. The donation to CKFTO is part of the Digicel Foundation’s broader commitment to supporting Persons with Disabilities and the organisations that serve this often-overlooked community.

Speaking at the clinic's official opening on 15 April, Penny Gomez, CEO of the Digicel Foundation, congratulated CKFTO on the milestone. “Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and every family deserves the resources to support their loved ones,” said Gomez. “This new Chaguanas clinic marks yet another vital step forward, reaching more families, closer to home—especially those who may have struggled in the past to access these services.”
