UNILEVER HAS A NEW HOME!

Tuesday 07 November 2023, Port of Spain – The Unilever Caribbean Ltd. (UCL) team is now fully established into their new headquarters at Albion Plaza, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain. The company was previously based for over sixty-three years at its iconic facility in Champs Fleurs. The new location is part of a transformative and progressive restructuring in line with Unilever’s global strategy.

“Unilever Caribbean Ltd. has fully embodied the hybrid work model with a fusion of work days in office and work-from-home. We’ve have had great results with this flexibility, including increased employee productivity and job satisfaction with greater work-life balance. Between our physical office and our digital workspaces, everyone on our team is empowered to do their best work in a manner that most suits them,” shared Jade De Vert, Unilever’s Human Resource Country Lead.

The Unilever team gathers in the boardroom of the new headquarters at Albion Plaza, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain, for a virtual meeting with off-site colleagues.

De Vert explained that the new head office was designed with employee flexibility and teamwork in mind: “We have open workstations and shared spaces to encourage team collaboration and creativity when we’re in the office together, but there are still individual and unique workspaces available for use by anyone on the team. All our meeting rooms are fully connected with integrated screens to facilitate our wider, virtual regional meetings. Our outdoor patio is one of the most popular meeting spots in the office when the weather allows!”

Since the pandemic, Unilever’s global workplace policies have focused on training and preparing its people to benefit from the rapid pace of digitization and automation in the industry. With almost 150,000 employees around the world, employees are offered increased flexibility tailored to their needs and stage of life, as well as opportunities for upskilling on the job for the evolving roles and future ways of working.

According to De Vert, the UCL team is learning Spanish together on live and virtual platforms including language apps during working hours to better support the closer working relationships between the Latin American and Spanish speaking Caribbean regional team.

“As the business and the world evolves, we will continue to provide the relevant training that facilitates the reskilling and upskilling of our employees for future-fit roles,” she said.

Earlier this year, like all Unilever offices around the world, the Port of Spain headquarters became a cloud-only enterprise in one of the biggest data migrations in consumer goods history. The company now operates from a globally integrated, high-performing digital core, so it can deliver greater efficiency to the Caribbean market and explore new ways of working.
