Port of Spain, Trinidad – FEBRUARY 20, 2025 – International Game Technology (“IGT”), a global leader in gaming, celebrated World Read Aloud Day by bringing together two of its After School Advantage (ASA) partners, Immortelle Children’s Centre for Special Education and the Just Because Foundation, to host a storytelling event for students. Hosted at the Immortelle Centre, Chevaughn Joseph, author and Founder of the Just Because Foundation, read aloud to students from her book, Anansi Goes to Hospital, the first in a six-part series aimed at raising awareness about childhood cancer. “The IGT ASA Programme is about much more than technology; it’s about building bridges within communities and empowering our youth to thrive,” said Dexter Thomas, IGT General Manager, Trinidad and Tobago. “Our goal is to address the increasing digital learning needs of today’s young people in spaces that enrich youth development and innovation. We’re proud to see how our partner organisations can come together to create meaningful and impactful experiences like today’s storytelling session.”
“It is so important to have initiatives like these that bring diverse communities together,” said Colette Browne, Acting Principal of Immortelle. “This book introduces children to themes of resilience and hope which resonated deeply with our students. We are thankful that our students have the opportunity to connect with inspiring individuals like Chevaughn Joseph, and for IGT’s thoughtful donation of her books to each of our students.”

Since its inception, IGT’s ASA Programme has remained steadfast in its mission to provide digital learning opportunities for youth in underserved communities. The programme has equipped 18 ASA centres at NGOs and children’s homes across Trinidad and Tobago with state-of-the-art technology, software, and volunteer support, amounting to over 50 donations since 2011. These efforts empower young learners to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects and prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow. The storytelling event at Immortelle is an example of IGT’s commitment to uniting the NGOs in its ASA programme in the spirit of shared growth and collaboration.
